In July 2007, three individuals, Douglas Lyvere,
Julie Ramirez and Elyse Buongiorno, decided
to form a nonprofit organization to focus
on helping our military personnel serving overseas.
Organizing programs for veterans is nothing new
for these individuals.
Douglas Lyvere is a retired Marine Corps
Sargent Major and is involved in several
military assistance programs.
Julie Ramirez is the founder of the
Alameda County, California, ‘Blue Star Mothers’
and Elyse Buongiorno, who lives in New Jersey,
has family members serving in the military.
Their objective is to form an all
volunteer / non-profit organization that
will collect much needed snacks and toiletries,
package the items, collect donated money
for postage, and finally take the boxes of ‘goodies’
to the post office to mail the boxes of to our military
personnel in the Middle East.
This three person organization chose to name their
organization ‘Eagles Up’.
